influence of westernisation on clothing

These days western influence can be seen all around, but most specifically it can be seen in the way pakistanis have started dressing up. Whatever fashion becomes popular abroad, it is being adopted by people here, without thinking that it is not meant for their body type or cultural values. Also the pakistani fashion industry is so inspired by the foreign styles that they dont even hesitate before introducing revealing clothes in their collection. So what is your point of view about it? share your comments and let us know what you think about this serious issue emerging in our society.

The way some people clothe themselves these days really confuses me
There is this case of a girl who'd be wearing a scraf tightly wrapped around her head, full loose shirt, dupatta, and when you look down, what do you see? .....capris:P
Then there are women, when they enter the universities with their mom or dad, they're really covered, i mean seriously covered. but the minute they see their cars leave, ud see the clothes on their bodies leave:S!
Then there are these females who'd regularly and openly wear very flimsy ,clingy clothes that are revealing to the extent that i personally can't afford to view them with a second glance.
Then there are these males,fLASHshing their underwears in shades of red and polka dots even.
we have not only been influenced by the western culture, but we try our level best to follow it in whatever way possible becuase we feel it somehow makes us superior to people who follow the rules of islam when comes to dressing modestly and with shame.

yes i completely agree with u annz...

the type of open and shameless comments that are written on the shirts of guys is Shocking... i dont know what they get out of it or why they feel like wearing such absurd shirts...

even tattoos and piercings have become soo normal...

I believe that if the fashion industry starts promoting full clothes their sales would increase tremendously...

right now only the some class of our society buys the (mostly) revealing clothes that they sell...

i dont mind westernization in clothing but i feel there r limits to everything...there r good trends in western clothes as well as bad sides ....not only girls but boys shud also see what they r wearing not only strange things r written but revealing is too much....same is the case with girls if they r wearing capris it implies they r wearing short skirt cuz when they sit down my gosh!there should be adaption to a certain extent...i totally agree with annz....

definately clothing in pakistan has taken a whole new turn. Everybody is dressing up according to their own style n interest. Not thinking that there image could be a little vulgur or not appropiate! It's a shame that we are not interested in promoting our cultural dress code that is "shalwar kameez"!!!

people in pakistan have started dressing up even more overtly than in the western countries which is really disturcing. the westerners are not forcing their culture on us it is us whoa re being influenced by them. therfore we have to strengthen our own values than just blame westernization....

No mean to be disrespectful but most of you guys are pointing out that people wear absurd kinds of style. Yes head scarf with capris is very absurd. But I wear jeans and kurtis and i wear a head scarf. My kurtis as a little above my knees and I don't wear too much make-up, eyeliner and some mascara to the maximum. I don't wear heels to my university and still manage to pray in a corner. Let me also tell you that I currently am living in USA. If I can manage to do all this, then what the freak is wrong with the youth in pakistan? I want to be a traditional bride, I want those beautiful shalwar kameezes, I want choori daar pajamas and long shawls to atleast cover my head. If I am in touch with my culture while living literally "saath samunder paar," what is wrong with the youth in Pakistan? Has anyone seen the This is It segement on nadia khan show? The clothing some of the girls were wearing was simply outrageous. Is our youth seriously this desperate to wear capris and tang tops just to get into a fashion industry? And those shameless judges didn't have the decency to say wear better clothes next time? Where is our tradition guys? Why can we not focus on making gorgeous shalwar kameezes that will out-compete any other in this world. Yes, I wear a head scarf but I still manage to carry my self pretty well without exposing my legs and back and shoulders!!! Call me over-confident but I am proud to be decent and I am even prouder to keep in touch with my culture when many of the ppl have failed while living in PAKISTAN!!

hi dear all. i am ver glad to read comments from all of you. though i have a chance to open this site in 2011 but what i have read here is appreciable. it is really regretable for us pakistanis to copy cat western/external culture without a second thought when i our own culture is replete with aesthetics and beauty. we feel proud by wearing absurd and revealing dresses when we shall be ashamed of it. we are more concerned by appreciation of people than by displeasure of our Creator.its matter of great concern that we are folowing people who have no cult of adhering to religion or shame. its time that we wake up and mend our ways and wear simple and modest dresses.

Ohh so true ..ppl in pakistan are quite complexed they think that the word "modern"means wearing jeans and t shirts and talking in english with a branded purse and cell in hand. Its quite shameful that vulgurness is being promoted in the name of fashion...its time we pakistanis reverted....... Neelam.

Assalam-o-Alaikum,
I totally agree with all the comments. Who is saying to the women that you should wear 'burqas' and cover your face, revealing only your eyes? Just have some respect for your own culture and wear appropriate dresses. If not a shalwar kameez with dupatta, then at least a long shirt with sleeves till elbow and a nice pant or jeans which covers your whole leg. If you want to wear a scarf too, then of course do! Modernization (thinking broadly) is not westernization (copying western culture).

Boys should also NOT wear t- shirts with some bad words or pictures on them. A fashion becoming too common these days is of wearing one ear- piercing which is so shameful. These jewellery items are for girls and should not be worn by boys. They should not wear sleeveless t- shirts which many boys do.

Please Pakistanis (especially youth) have some shame and wear what is allowed by Islam that is covering your whole body and not displaying some parts. Do not follow the West in clothing and have bad deeds. Do good deeds so that you enter Jannat.

Rasoolullah S.A.W said Wear loose clothes so that the shape of your satr (for men its naval to knee and woman whole body except face and hands) is not revealed.

Any western dress today in the world do not fit under this criteria.

Conversely the dress we wear now a days are tight on your satr especially. If we have to go shopping for new clothes we go to these large malls where you get all the brands, they have little rooms there....
What do we do inside those rooms? These are trial rooms, obviously we go and try out those dresses.
But what do you look for ....we make sure if the garment fits properly or not..RIGHT!!

If not we go for the other properly fitted one, do we really care at that moment what does our propher(S.A.W) told us regarding the clothing, NO! as we have those celebrities in mind while choosing our dress.

Prophet S.A.W prophesized this tribulation in one of the hadith
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said: “There are two types of people who will enter the Hell-fire, whom I have not (as yet) seen: People having whips similar to ox-tails with which they will beat people, and (secondly) women who will be dressed yet appear to be naked.

In this hadith the women who are dressed yet appeared naked is describing this skin tight western outfit, when a woman wears it (Jeans and T shirt) she appears as good as naked to men.

And while a man is wearing the same clothes (Jeans/T Shirt) and if a woman look at him she would have evil thoughts in her mind as well.

This dress causes Zina of the eyes everywhere we go and we cant save ourselves of this.

This is the greatest fitnah in today's world.
